Options
The Options page is found in the Main window. There are settings that you can configure to customize how you use ParetoLogic Spam Controls. These include options for toolbar integration, settings to have dialogs displayed, and the option to automatically purge your spam messages. See Purge to find out how to set Auto Purge functionality.
To view the Option settings do the following:
Open the Main window and click the Options link.
When you open the Options page the integration options for Windows Mail, Outlook, and Outlook Express are displayed. In each of these sections there is information related to the last scan. Spam Controls is designed to report on the number of unique emails scanned and the total items that are classified as spam.
Integration Options
You can select what email application you want ParetoLogic Spam Controls to integrate with so that the toolbar is displayed with the email application. You can have Spam Controls integrate with Windows Mail, Outlook, and Outlook Express. You can also perform a spam scan for either of these email programs directly from the Options panel.
When a Spam Controls toolbar is integrated with an email application, the associated check box option is checked. If an email application is not selected then the check box is clear and the option to scan is disabled.
To integrate the Spam Controls toolbar with Windows Mail:
In the Email Application Integration section, check the Windows Mail option.
To integrate the Spam Controls toolbar with Microsoft Outlook:
In the Email Application Integration section, check the Microsoft Office Outlook option.
To integrate the Spam Controls toolbar with Microsoft Outlook Express:
In the Email Application Integration section, check the Microsoft Outlook Express option.
Note: Clearing the check box option produces different results for Windows Mail, Outlook, and Outlook Express. See Launch, Disable, and Restore for more information.
Scan information is displayed in the Email Application Integration section including the time of the last scan, the total items scanned, and the total spam detected.
Interface Settings
There are dialogs that are displayed during regular operations of Spam Controls. These include:
- "Mark As Spam" and "Mark As Not Spam"
- Spam Controls Toolbar Information
- Purge Confirmation
You can turn off these dialogs so they are temporarily disabled by clearing the check box at the bottom of the dialog when they appear. If you want to have Spam Controls display these dialogs again you can check the appropriate check box displayed in the Options panel.
"Mark As Spam" and "Mark As Not Spam" dialogs
The Options page combines the settings of these dialogs. You can keep these settings so that both will behave using automated functionality. For example, you can have the sender of an email automatically sent to the Allow List each time you identify an email as Not Spam. This also means that the sender of emails you identify as Spam will automatically be moved to the Block List.
To have senders of an email sent to the respective list, do the following:
Select the Automatically add sender to the appropriate list check box.
You can also have the actions reported to ParetoLogic, including marking the email as Spam or marking it as Not Spam. By doing this you improve the detection process.
To automatically report email as Spam or as Not Spam, do the following:
Select the Automatically send a report check box.
