Launch, Disable, and Restore
Getting familiar with ParetoLogic Spam Controls includes learning about opening the Main window, toolbar integration, and exiting or disabling the program. Windows Mail, Outlook, and Outlook Express handle plug-in applications differently and, as a result, there are differences in how you can disable Spam Controls from the email application of your choice.
Launching
After installing the application the Spam Controls toolbar is added to the toolbar section of your email application. When you open your email application the toolbar appears as well. By using the ParetoLogic Spam Controls icon located in the you can launch Windows Mail, Outlook, or Outlook Express.
To launch your email application from the system tray:
- Right-click the ParetoLogic Spam Controls icon located in the system tray.
- Select Open Windows Mail, Open Outlook, or Open Outlook Express.
Note: If these option are disabled you will need to select the corresponding check boxes in the Options page in the Email Application Integration section. See the Options page for more information.
You can also open the Main window from the system tray.
To launch your email application from the system tray:
- Right-click the Spam Controls icon in the system tray.
- Select Open ParetoLogic Spam Controls.

Disabling and Exiting ParetoLogic Spam Controls
You can disable the program entirely or you can choose to have some program functionality. Functionality includes:

Microsoft Windows Mail
You can choose to disable Spam Controls so that the spam counter does not function, the Spam Controls icon is removed from the system tray, there is no Spam Controls toolbar integration, and no active spam detection.
To completely disable Spam Controls for Windows Mail do the following:
Right-click the ParetoLogic Spam Controls icon in the system tray and select Disable.
Alternatively, you can disable the toolbar integration, spam detection, and the spam counter functionality for Windows Mail and leave the Spam Controls icon in the system tray.
To remove Spam Controls toolbar integration in Windows Mail:
- Open the Main window and click the Options link.
- In the Windows Mail section, clear the Microsoft Windows Mail option.
Microsoft Outlook
You can choose to partially disable Spam Controls so that the spam counter does not function and the Spam Controls icon is removed from the system tray. You will still have Spam Controls toolbar integration and active spam detection.
To partially disable Spam Controls for Outlook do the following:
Right-click the ParetoLogic Spam Controls icon located in the system tray and select Disable.
You can disable the toolbar integration for Outlook.
To remove Spam Controls toolbar integration in Outlook:
- Open the Main window and click the Options link.
- In the Microsoft Office Outlook section, clear the Microsoft Office Outlook option.
Microsoft Outlook offers you the option of hiding toolbars. You can hide the Spam Controls toolbar in Outlook without disabling program functionality. See Toolbar for more information.
Microsoft Outlook Express
You can choose to disable Spam Controls so that the spam counter does not function, the Spam Controls icon is removed from the system tray, there is no Spam Controls toolbar integration, and no active spam detection.
To completely disable Spam Controls for Outlook Express do the following:
Right-click the ParetoLogic Spam Controls icon in the system tray and select Disable.
Alternatively, you can disable the toolbar integration, spam detection, and the spam counter functionality for Outlook Express and leave the Spam Controls icon in the system tray.
To remove Spam Controls toolbar integration in Outlook Express:
- Open the Main window and click the Options link.
- In the Microsoft Outlook Express section, clear the Microsoft Outlook Express option.
Restore ParetoLogic Spam Controls
You can restore the Spam Controls functionality after disabling its functionality.
To restore the application, do the following:
To restore the application functionality do one of the following:
- Click Start and select Programs | ParetoLogic | Spam Controls | Spam Controls.
- Double-click the Spam Controls desktop icon.
You can open the Options page and choose to integrate the toolbar with your email application. See the Options page for more information.
Note: If you have Outlook open prior to restoring toolbar integration, you will need to close the email application and restart it.
