You can add one or more files to the Shred list to designate them as files you want to permanently erase. You can also clear selected files or all files.
Warning: There is no way to recover shredded items. Verify the items you have selected to shred before proceeding.
Adding Files

- Do one of the following:
- Select Add Files, select the files you want to add, and click Open.

When adding certain files to the Shred list, a confirmation dialog appears. This is a safeguard built in to the program so that you do not remove files that are required by the system. For more information, see Safeguards.
Clearing Files From the Shred List
There are times when you have added files to the Shred list that you do not want to permanently shred. For example, you may have added the entire contents of a folder and you want to preserve certain files. In these situations you will need to clear the files from the Shred list.
There are two options: removing selected items or removing the entire list.
To clear selected files from the Shred list:
- Select the items to remove.
- Click the Clear button and select Clear Selected Files from the List.
To clear all files from the Shred list:
- Click the Clear button
- Select Clear All Files from the List.
Once you are sure the items in the Shred list can be permanently erased you are ready to shred them.
