Troubleshooting: Manual Installation
Situations arise where drivers you want downloaded and installed do not successfully install on your system. In these situations the items continue to show up in the scan results when performing a scan.
Note: Drivers are created by the manufacturers of particular devices. We have no control over the development and reliability of these files. If you have a problem with one or more of the drivers suggested for your system, you can choose to find more specific support by contacting the manufacturer of the device directly.
You can correct the problem yourself using the steps outlined here. In the event that you are unable to successfully perform a manual install, you can contact our support team.
In many cases, the drivers downloaded to your system by DriverCure are available as an executable file that can be installed in a straightforward manner. If you encounter issues as stated above, we recommend you attempt to manually install the driver. When this is not the case, such as when the files are in a self-extracting zip file, you can choose to use an alternative manual method. These methods are:
- Installing directly from the ParetoLogic DriverCure download location (recommended)
- Installing using the Hardware Device Manager
Note: These installation steps assume you have successfully performed a scan and that you have downloaded the driver. If this is not the case see: Scan and Install.
Both of these methods require you to know the location of the downloaded driver.
To locate the ParetoLogic DriverCure download location, do the following:
- From the Main window, click the Settings link.
- In the Download Section, take note of the download path.
NOTE: The default location is: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Downloads. For more information see: Settings.
Installation From the DriverCure Download Location
Once you know the location of the downloaded file you can install it directly from the download location. Once the download is complete you can verify it was successful.
To install from the download location, do the following:
In Windows Explorer, locate the driver and double-click the file to install it. Follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer of the driver.
Note: Many drivers will have an ".exe" extension that will launch the installation of the driver when you double-click it. In some cases, a driver is downloaded in a self-extracting zip file. You can open or extract these files and, if there are instructions on installing the driver to your system, you can refer to these for more information.
To verify the installation was successful, do the following:
Run a new scan and review the results.
If the driver you were installing is not in the list you have successfully installed it. If you are still having issues you can attempt to install the driver using the Device Manager.
Installation From the Device Manager
To install from the Device Manager you will need to know the location of your downloaded driver as described above.
Note: If the file is a zip file (with a ".zip" extension), we recommend that you open it and save the contents to a new folder that you can easily locate (for example, on your desktop).
You will also need to know the device type (for example, printer, network adapter). See: Scan Results for more information. Once you have this information you can proceed.
