Note: Scan time will vary depending on the size of the drive and system performance.
Start the Scan
Once you are familiar with the scanning options, starting the scan is straightforward. Before selecting a custom scan it is recommended that you first select what items you want to scan as described in the Custom Scan section below.
To start the scan:
- In the Main window click Scan.
- Select one of the scan options.
- Click the Start Scan button.
Note: You can perform scans on an automatic basis using the Schedule feature.
Once a scan has started you can let it run in the background and you can perform other operations. You are limited only by your computer system performance capabilities. When the scan is complete a list of detected items is displayed. For more information, see Scan Results.
Custom Scan
You can configure a scan so that only the items you select are scanned. You can choose specific folders or you can include any drives, including removable storage devices, that are listed.
To select items for a Custom Scan:
- Open the Custom Scan options by doing one of the following:
- In the Main window click Scan and click the Customize Scan Settings link.
- Click the Settings link located at the top-right of the Main window and select the Custom Scan option in the left pane.
- Check the items you want to scan or clear the check box of items you do want to scan.
- Click OK.
- Click the Start Scan button.
Stop the Scan
During the scan you have the option of stopping the scan. If you stop the scan before it is finished, any detected malware threats are displayed and you have the option to remove them. See Removing Items for more information.
