Starting a Scan
There are three types of scans that you can choose from:
Type of Scan
|
Description
|
Quick Scan
|
Scans the most common errors found in processes, registry, system folders, and the host file. Typically this scan will take less than a minute.
|
Full Scan
|
Scans the entire system including processes, registry, system folders, host file, the entire hard drive, and all external drives. This typically takes more than a minute.
|
Custom Scan
|
Scans selected items that you choose including processes, registry, system folders, host file, the entire hard drive, and any external drives. By default the Custom Scan is set to perform like a Quick Scan.
|
Start the Scan
Once you are familiar with the scanning options, starting the scan is straightforward. Before selecting a custom scan it is recommended that you first select what items you want to scan (see the Custom Scan section below).
To start the scan:
- In the left Anti-Spyware panel of the Main window click Scan.
- Select one of the scan options.
Note: You can also start a Quick Scan or a Full Scan from the Home page. Or you can have scans performed on an automatic basis using the Schedule feature.
Once a scan has started you can let it run in the background and you can perform other operations. You are limited only by your computer system performance capabilities. When the scan is complete a list of detected items is displayed. For more information, see Scan Results.
Custom Scan
You can configure a scan so that only the items you select are scanned.
To select items for a Custom Scan:
- Open the Custom Scan options by doing one of the following:
- In the left Anti-Spyware panel of the Main window click Scan and click the Customize Scan Settings link.
- Click the Settings link located at the top-right of the Main window.
- Check the items you want to scan or clear the check box of items you do want to scan.
- Click OK.
Stop the Scan
During the scan you have the option of stopping the scan. If you do not stop the scan the current scan and identified spyware threats are displayed. When the scan is finished a list of all identified issues is displayed.
To stop the scan and return to the previous step:
- Click the Cancel button.
- Click the Finish link.
