ParetoLogic aims to make Internet waves more child-friendly with SafeSurfer

Concerned about the safety of families online, ParetoLogic, a leader in Internet security and PC optimization, is launching an exciting new initiative.

ParetoLogic's innovative SafeSurfer is a multi-faceted program aimed at improving online safety for young people. It will include three unique components, including an eye-catching, interactive website, community partnerships, and presentations at Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) meetings on Vancouver Island.

"Due to the nature of our work in Internet security, we are all too aware of the dangers that children face when using the Internet," said Amanda Cooper, ParetoLogic's Director of Communications. "SafeSurfer is a way for us to reach out and educate young people around the world as well as making a major impact in our home community. This is an on-going effort to improve the online world for families. Providing this service free of charge is a way for us to give back to the community in a meaningful way."

The SafeSurfer website is designed to draw young people ages 8-14 to a safe place where they can engage in activities they enjoy, as well as learning about responsible and safe Internet usage. Some of the exciting features of the website are free games, video and computer game reviews, a community blog and forum, and of course information and tips on how to keep safe while using the Internet. The young people drive the site's content with their participation and new features will be added according to their interests and feedback. The goal is to make the website a place that young people will want to return to again and again.

Parents are also a key component in online safety. The website will include a special section dedicated to assisting parents in keeping their families safe online. As well, ParetoLogic personnel will be holding hour-and-a-half sessions at evening PAC meetings. These informative presentations will feature the newest information on kids' Internet usage, gleaned from the SafeSurfer website. By using the information received from the young users, parents will gain an increased understanding of the role the Internet plays in their children's lives and the risks they face. The PAC meetings will also include discussion on how potential Internet pitfalls can be minimized and how parents can guide their children's online usage. As well as live presentations, this important information will also be available for download via the SafeSurfer website.

With the goal of sharing information, ParetoLogic plans to partner with community-based groups as well as organizations with a child-safety mandate. ParetoLogic can provide these groups and organizations with important information while they can enrich the SafeSurfer program with knowledge of the "real world" risks young people are facing.
