Overview:

Reporting to the IT Manager, the Network/System Administrator (NSA) is responsible for the installation, maintenance and operations of the corporate technical infrastructure components. This includes workstations, servers, associated peripherals, switches, routers, remote access devices, enterprise applications and more. As a key member of the Information Technology Group, the NSA will provide leadership in managing IT infrastructure projects to completion including determining and understanding requirements, documentation and planning, providing technical solutions and strategy for implementation and deployment. This will be accomplished through adhering to IT Group standards and procedures and ensuring that service levels are met with a strong focus on customer service.

Technical and Knowledge Requirements:

  • Knowledgeable in the installation and configuration of routers, switches, firewalls, and other network devices
  • Understands network concepts and protocols such as LDAP, SMTP, POP3, DNS, DHCP, SNMP, VOIP
  • Familiar with network and system troubleshooting techniques, tools and resources
  • Has an advanced knowledge of Microsoft Operating Systems and a working knowledge of Domain Administration Tools and Applications such as Microsoft Exchange
  • Familiar with scripts, print servers LAN Shares and other network peripherals
  • Education includes a university degree in computer science, a college diploma or equivalent knowledge and experience
  • Has above average verbal and written communication skills
  • Is able to participate in an on call rotation as part of the 24x7 IT response team

Desirable Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of recent experience in a medium-sized IT environment
  • Certifications in CCNA, MCSE, MCITP, RHCE and A+ are desirable
  • Specific experience with Cisco Network Appliances including ASA, Switches, Wireless Access Points, Call Manager, Call Center Server, VMware (workstation and ESX / VCenter), IBM Blade Center, SAN is highly desirable
  • Working experience with What's Up Gold, NetFlow and ScriptLogic Help Desk Authority beneficial
  • Knowledge of Red Hat Linux is considered an asset
  • Gigabit and Fast-Ethernet switches and routers, BGP and OSPF routing is a plus

Key Functions and Responsibilities:

As part of the IT team, the NSA will provide technical expertise in the areas of networking, communications, server and workstation management, communications and enterprise applications. The incumbent will also take part in the implementation of special projects. Specific duties include:

  • Monitor Cisco network appliances
  • Monitor network and server performance health
  • Install, administer and provide technical support for the Windows 2003/2008 LAN environment including OS installation, patching, and security configuration
  • Work with external service providers to maintain and troubleshoot Infrastructure ParetoLogic's network
  • Assist in identifying, developing and implementing system and service quality measures and controls
  • Report on network and server capacity and performance
  • Write technical documentation for knowledgebase, maintenance manuals, network configuration and more
  • Assist in the creation and on-going management of a detailed asset inventory of all equipment, software and licenses under IT Group control
  • Assist in the implementation and operation of detailed systems monitoring and remote administration utilities as prescribed by IT operational policy
  • Respond to network and critical system outages as part of a 24x7 IT Technical Response team
  • Configures network security and mail features, including user accounts, LAN shares, distribution and security groups, etc
  • Assists in the provision of operational, project and helpdesk services to the corporate inter-departmental client base
  • Oversees work of junior technicians when assigned as task or project Lead Technician
