Business Systems Analyst
Summary
The ParetoLogic Business Systems Analyst (BSA) participates in the delivery of business analysis services to the Technology & Development (TechDev) Department and other Paretologic (PL) departments as assigned by the Project Management Office (PMO). The BSA is an important part of the PMO team for consulting with PL business units to determine technology requirements in support of business goals and for accurately documenting, analyzing and communicating those requirements to TechDev for fulfillment. Under the guidance of the Director of Operations, Project Managers and more senior BSAs, the BSA is expected to contribute to the advancement of standards in process, documentation and communication within the PMO and throughout the company.
For assigned projects, the BSA will also assist Project Managers, Quality Assurance Analysts, Technical Analysts and subject matter experts in the development, review and on-schedule completion of a variety of project deliverables.
Reporting
The Business Systems Analyst reports to the Director of Operations overall and to Project Managers for assigned projects.
Qualifications & Work Experience:
- Post-secondary education in Business or Information Technology (or equivalent)
- Specific certifications / training in Business Systems Analysis preferred
- 1 - 2 years relevant industry experience
Desirable:
- Experience working with security, anti-spyware and eCommerce software
- Experience with software localization issues
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assists in needs assessments sessions with business units to identify business technology requirements
- Assists in developing business and technical plans and specifications
- Researches and compiles specific information required for presentations, change requests, feasibility and business case analyses and training
- Utilizes a basic knowledge of business issues and processes as well as ICT resources and enabling technologies
- Assists in the review of contractor, vendor and/or project deliverables
- Participates in Standards & Architecture development activities and helps identify opportunities for business and process improvement
- Contributes to the ongoing documentation and design of internal operational systems including creation and maintenance of logical data models, data dictionaries, systems specifications, business processes and other documents
- Assists with the administration and conduct of PMO operational workflow activities including administration of project and time tracking systems, document repositories, generation of operational reports and maintenance of business systems
Skills & Abilities:
- Strategy and High-level Architecture
- Basic understanding of approaches to systems development, integration and implementation including the delivery platform/technical architecture, development tools, techniques and applications
- Ability to use existing data or network models to meet application development model requirements
- Ability to implement business plans, work in compliance with policies and to identify, monitor or validate standards
- Software Applications, Operational Systems and Databases
- Ability to define high-level requirements and assist in the development of new application software, system and test specifications
- Ability to assess software change requests and complaints
- Assist in the documentation and consolidation of Change Requests (CRs) and bug reports as part of the overall change management process for development and operational projects
- Communication and Leadership
- Ability to write technical specifications, business cases, ROI Analyses and other documents for both a technical and management audience
- Ability to assist with the organization and administration of meetings and participate in seminars and Joint Application Development (JAD) sessions
- Project Management
- Apply a basic understanding of PMI project management principles including estimation, timelines and milestones, management of involvement in multiple projects, application of company process for management of change, issues and risk that arise in the course of projects
- Concepts and Tools
- Good knowledge of multiple Microsoft Windows OS platforms and MS Office 2003 (or later) applications
- Familiarity with bug tracking and version control software, SQL and general RDBMS concepts
- Understanding of networked hardware environment, client server and web-based application concepts
- Understanding of data modeling concepts
- Understanding of the software development life cycle
